Friday Favorites: Ruffled Shrugs

There are pros and cons to living in a region that has four seasons. I've never lived in any other type of climate, and I know what to expect each time the weather changes around here. In the summertime here in the DC suburbs, the forecast is much the same every day. "Hazy, hot, and humid with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms". When the heat and humidity are oppressive (and even unhealthy at times), I tend to stay indoors. Of course I'm dressed for the outdoors in a tank or short sleeved top, so I get chilled when the air conditioning is blasting. I try to dress in layers this time of year~ and one of my favorite accessories is a ruffled shrug. Falling in loose layers over a tighter top, these shrugs fit right into my favorite category of "fun and functional" accessories. Any of these three pieces would be a perfect addition to my wardrobe!

J. Crew Sweater Re-Do

Winter is my least favorite season; it seems endless and dreary to me.
I feel like I'm always cold, the sky is often gray, the grass is no longer green, the trees are bare, nothing blooms and I really miss the sunshine. I don't like skiing or other winter activities.
I only venture outside when necessary; never by choice this time of year. Good thing I can see the bus stop from my front windows and that my kids are old enough to walk there! I'm not a hermit, I'm just hibernating.
So back to the sweater. My very warm gray J. Crew cardigan lost a button a while back.
Since I didn't like the original brown wood-look buttons that came on the sweater; I decided to jazz it up a bit with an assortment of colored buttons! Here are the before and after pictures:

Thrify Thursday

Today's score is just right for this time of year. In late October and early November our weather is cold in the mornings and evenings but a bit more tolerable during the mid-day. So layering is the key to comfort. Today at a local thrift shop I found a camel colored cable knit cardigan sweater by Ralph Lauren. In mint condition. For $2.95. If I didn't want it for myself I'd have bought it just to put on eBay! I think I'll wear it tomorrow. At least until we go to the Halloween parade...
